How to Prep for Your Boudoir Session: A Week-by-Week Guide

Feeling a little nervous about your boudoir session? Exited but also like, “ What do I actually need to do to get ready?” You’re not alone. A little prep goes a long way toward helping you feel confident, sexy, and totally ready to rock your shoot. Here’s my easy, step-by-step guide to getting your body, mind, and outfits prepped for your big day.

This is all based on the same timeline I share with my clients, with a few extra tips along the way. Lets get into it.

WEEKS BEFORE: Self-Care & Styling Game Plan

  • Book your beauty appointments early ( waxing, facials, nails, etc)

  • Start planning what you want to wear. I highly recommend NOT wating until the week of - especially if you’re ordering lingerie online (Shipping delays are real).

  • Shop your closet! You might already have something perfect- don’t overlook that silki cami or your favorite heels.

  • Try everything on ahead of time. Make sure your outfits fit comfortably and flatter in all the right places—no surprises on shoot day.

One WEEK BEFORE: Skin, Hair, Hydration, and Flexibility

  • Moisturize, and then moisturize again. Elbows, knees, thighs, everywhere. You’ll thank yourself in the photos.

  • Take care of your nails. A full mani/pedi is great, but even a good file and buff will do. Soft nudes, black, or classic red all photograph beautifully.

  • Hair removal? If you’re waxing or shaving anything, do it now 2 to 3 days out to avoid redness. (And yes, totally fine to keep things natural too.)

  • Haircuts & color: If you're planning a trim or color refresh, do it at least a week before so it has time to settle. Avoid any drastic changes right before your shoot - this isn’t the time to experiment!

  • Hydrate! Drink plenty of water this week. Your skin will look better, and you’ll feel better during posing.

  • Stretch. Sounds silly, but seriously - boudoir posing is like sexy yoga. Do some light stretching each day this week to help you hold those dramatic arches and squats like a pro.

Day Before: Wash, Pack, Rest

  • Wash and dry your hair. Skip heat styling — we’ll take it from there with professional hair + makeup on session day.

  • Avoid salty or bloating foods. Nothing wrong with a little indulgence, but give your tummy a break so you feel your best.

  • Drink water like it’s your job.

  • Shave (if needed) tonight or first thing in the morning.

  • Pack it all up! There is no limit on outfits you can bring, but I will ask you to point out your top 3 at arrival. Need help choosing I can help with that.

  • Don’t forget accessories: heels, stockings, jewelry, robes, harnesses—whatever matches your vibe.
That said, minimalism is totally my thing, so don’t feel like you have to bring anything extra. But if your heart wants it? I’m here for it.

MORNING OF YOUR SESSION: Comfort is Queen

You made it! Today’s the day. Let’s set you up for success right out the gate.

  • Exfoliate and cleanse your face and body gently.

  • Wear loose, comfy clothes — leggings, sweats, a zip-up hoodie. No bras or tight socks that leave marks on your skin.

  • Leave the wristwatch at home. Same with anything that could leave red lines or dents.

  • Come bare-faced, clean-haired, and ready to be pampered.

And finally take a deep breath. You’re in good hands. I’ll guide you through posing from head to toe, and you don’t need to know what you’re doing. Just show up open, curious, and ready to celebrate yourself.

Final Thoughts

Boudoir isn’t about perfection — it’s about presence. Taking care of yourself in the days leading up to your session helps you walk in feeling calm, grounded, and completely in your power.

Got questions about any of the steps above? I’ve got you. Whether it’s outfits, props, or nervous jitters — I’m here to make the whole experience feel like second nature.

Let’s make some damn magic.
